December academic readings “The Power and Society in Russia: crises and ways of interaction. Late 19 – early 21 century”. December 17-19, 2018

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of writer and public figure A. I. Solzhenitsyn on December 11, 2018, the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn House of Russian Expatriates, the museum association “Moscow museum” and the GULAG History Museum will hold a conference “The power and society in Russia: crises and ways of interaction. Late 19 – early 21 century."

The conference will cover the following topics:

  • The social and political movements in Russia on the cusp of the 19th and 20th centuries.
  • The relationship between government and society in 1905-1917.
  • The civil war of 1918–1922 as a process of asserting a new power and the peak of national
  • confrontation.
  • The Red Wheel: state and public mechanisms of political violence.
  • The Khrushchev Thaw and dissidents from 1956 to the beginning of the 1980s
  • Russian expatriates and their role in shaping the social and political environment in the USSR.
  • The power and society in New Russia: from Perestroika to present days.
  • Aleksander Solzhenitsyn: personality, heritage, and memory.
